The digital camera is an amazing thing!  Unlike a film camera, you know just what you are getting immediately after you take the shot.  That way there are no scary surprises when you get home or finally have the opportunity to pick up your pictures up at the developer.  Another amazing thing is that you can save many thousands of pictures and keep them with you on a memory card which comes in at the average width of someone’s thumb and the thinness of a razor blade.  You can also do some quick editing to your pictures from the camera immediately after taking the shot as well.

We rely so heavily on the digital cameras for our technology that we often overlook their importance.  Amongst many things, digital photography is used to capture astronomical phenomena (with the use of the Hubble Telescope as an example), create those incredible 360 degree Google Maps that we all love, and capture jaw-dropping satellite imagery applied towards applications like Google Earth.
